ABSTRACT

Based on a systematical discussion of the logical relationship between social mentality as a psychological basis of social actions and institutions and social governance, and the online emotion as the core element of the dynamic tendency of internet-based social mentality to form emotional energy to promote the operation of the internet society, this paper conducts an empirical study on the online social mentality and public sentiment guidance during the COVID-19 epidemic in mainland China. We use more than 1 million Weibo dynamic data of 104 accounts of three different types including official media, self-media, and big V media and conduct emotional calculation and judgment to address our objectives. The results show that the public sentiment presented by Weibo as the carrier is mainly positive, among which the official media play a positive role in guiding emotions, while the role played by big Vs' is limited during the COVID-19 epidemic. There exists different public sentiment stemmed from the regional differences brought by the heterogeneity of social governance, economic and social development beyond the media guidance. The study provides valuable internet governance experience on how the government can guide the public to respond to and deal with the crisis with a positive attitude when major public health emergencies occur in the future. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The novel (COVID-19) pandemic is the most talked subject in web-based media stages in 2020. Individuals are utilizing web-based media, for example, Twitter to offer their viewpoint and offer data on various issues identified with the COVID-19 in this stay-At-home request. Here we have explored the conclusion and feeling of people groups in the U.S.A regarding the matter of resuming. We pick the online media stage Twitter for our examination and study the Tweets to find the nostalgic point of view, enthusiastic viewpoint, and setting off words towards the returning. During this COVID-19 pandemic, analysts have made some examination on different online media dataset with respect to lockdown and stay at home. Be that as it may, in our examination, we are especially in trigged to dissect public estimation on returning. Our significant finding is that when all states resorted to lockdown in March, individuals showed predominant feeling of dread, yet as resuming begins individuals have less dread. While this might be valid, because of this resuming stage day by day sure case surprising contrasted with the lockdown circumstance. Generally speaking, individuals have a more positive assumption towards the circumstance of resuming. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Indonesian government carries out vaccination program as part of the COVID-19 response. This study aimed to determine student responses to the news of COVID-19 vaccination through online media in August 2021. The media plays an essential role in understanding the importance of vaccines for the community. COVID-19 cases in Indonesia;simultaneously, the government pushed for a vaccination program. This study uses a stimulus-organism-response approach, the SOR approach, that looks at the individual's (organism) perception of the message (stimulus) received. The SOR theory looks at the individual's perception of policies through online media;the elements in SOR analysis look at the stimulus through student responses. The study uses descriptive quantitative methods to describe student responses through purposive sampling. The finding of this study show three categories of aspects;appropriate sources, covering both sides, and verification steps. According to this study, students rate vaccination news differently in three categories: first, aspects of appropriate types of media with assessment (32%), second, cover both sides with assessment (33%), and third, verification with assessment (35%) as a result of news broadcast on online news, pupils can get vaccination programs developed by the government to combat COVID-19. This acceptability is shown by a change in the attitude of the respondents, from being confident to being more confident about carrying out the Covid-19 vaccination. This study classifies the role of online media in shaping students' impressions of government policies and initiatives during the COVID-19 time. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

It must be admitted that with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, conventional face-to-face learning has been disrupted. Luckily, we have to thank to advances in science and technology, so that the learning system does not have to stop, but can continue even though by online learning, either through zoom meeting or google meet or other online media. In such a context, this research was conducted with the main objective of finding out whether compulsory curriculum subjects, especially Pancasila Education and Religion Education, can still have a significant influence on character building through Value Education? Therefore, this simple research used quantitative methods by distributing questionnaires to 150 students as simple random sampling. From the data obtained, it was found the result that Pancasila Education and Religion Education still have a significant influence on Value Education which at Bina Nusantara University the values is focused to the value of SPIRIT (Striving for the excellent, Perseverance, Integrity, Respect, Innovation, and Teamwork). So, it can be concluded that the COVID-19 condition must not slacken the spirit to shape the character of students through Pancasila Education and Religion Education, so that core values of Bina Nusantara University remain embedded in students. © 2022 ACM.

ABSTRACT

Misinformation in online media has become a major research topic the last few years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed, false or misleading news about coronavirus have been characterized as an infodemic1 by the World Health Organization, because of how fast it can spread online. A considerable vector of spreading misinformation is represented by conspiracy theories. During this challenge, we tackled the problem of detecting COVID-19-related conspiracy theories in tweets. To perform this task, we used different approaches such as a combination of TFIDF and machine learning algorithms, transformer-based neural networks or Natural Language Inference. Our best model obtains a MCC score of 0.726 for the main task on the validation set and a MCC score of 0.775 on the test set making it the best performing method among the challenge competitors. ABSTRACT

In the face of the COVID-19 crisis, parents and educators were tasked with the enormous responsibility of creating a dedicated learning environment for their students at home. While shifting to an online medium was challenging, it provided a unique opportunity for AIChE at UCLA to support K-12 students through its new Remote Reach project. In Remote Reach, designing and delivering personalized interactive lessons to students has proved to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for members involved. The prospect of online education has enabled our chapter to establish several connections with schools and community groups and develop a new approach to outreach. This year, our chapter's Remote Reach, was a year-long project that was dedicated to helping elementary and high school students learn and get excited about STEM topics while learning from home. We partnered with 3 main schools, 2 elementary schools and 1 high school. For each elementary school, we had a team of 5-10 AIChE members make and present a unique STEM module biweekly to 100+ students. Topics were chosen based on teacher, school, and member input and were designed to include demos, videos, and interactive content. The goal was to facilitate learning and discussion amongst the students using different mediums, rather than just our members lecturing them. These biweekly modules gave the elementary students the opportunity to learn new topics on a regular basis and become comfortable with our members. For the high school, we designed modules that would teach them about what ChemE's do and how wide-ranging our careers can be with videos and an interactive Process Flow Diagram activity. At this workshop, we will introduce innovative ways our chapter has served hundreds of students in the Greater Los Angeles community online, and how all student chapters can grow their own outreach programs in this ever-changing climate. Additionally, we will detail how Remote Reach's techniques can be utilized in both an in-person and online format to best serve your community as guidelines change. © 2021 American Institute of Chemical Engineers. ABSTRACT

The language of online publications of COVID-19 pandemic period has been enriched by many lexical innovations. One of the productive means of derivation is the prefix of Greek origin anti-. Considering the attention of the audience to online publications on the topic of COVID-19, the responsibility for the way of presenting information is growing, so it is important to explore not only the meaning of words with the prefix anti-, but also their expressiveness and tonality that they can give to the whole text. Prefix anti- formed the adjectives антикоронавірусний – “anticoronavirus”, антиковідний – “anticovid”, антикарантинний – “anti-quarantine”, антимасковий – “anti-mask”, the nouns антимасочник – “anti-mask”, антимаска – “anti-mask”. The words антивакцинатор – “anti-vaxxer”, антирекорд – “antirecord”, which existed in the language before the COVID-19 pandemic, are updated and specify their meaning, some medical and biological concepts such as антиген – “antigen”, антитіла – “antibodies” tend to be determinologizated. It is found that the words with the prefix anti- have a distinct stylistic marking in the analyzed texts, they are characterized by expressiveness, which can be positive or negative one. This is due to the ability of the formant anti- to be added to words with both positive and negative meanings. Machine analysis of the text made it possible to determine the tonality of the texts with neologisms with the prefix anti-. In the language of online media, words with the prefix anti- and without it are in antonymous relations, but in some contexts – in synonymous ones. This result of the study should be taken into account when creating media texts, because depending on the communicative purpose, the author could use neologisms with the prefix anti- to give the publication a more pronounced tonality and expressiveness. The use of such words in the language of online media is motivated by the tendency of language economy, search for means of expression, reflection of social polarization, nominative need, intensification of globalization processes and related lexical borrowings. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

ABSTRACT

In the context of COVID-19 pandemic, social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram stand out as important sources of information. Among those, YouTube, as the largest and most engaging online media consumption platform, has a large influence in the spread of information and misinformation, which makes it important to study how the platform deals with the problems that arise from disinformation, as well as how its users interact with different types of content. Considering that United States (USA) and Brazil (BR) are two countries with the highest COVID-19 death tolls, we asked the following question: What are the nuances of vaccination campaigns in the two countries? With that in mind, we engage in a comparative analysis of pro and anti-vaccine movements on YouTube. We also investigate the role of YouTube in countering online vaccine misinformation in USA and BR. For this means, we monitored the removal of vaccine related content on the platform and also applied various techniques to analyze the differences in discourse and engagement in pro and anti-vaccine "comment sections". We found that American anti-vaccine content tend to lead to considerably more toxic and negative discussion than their pro-vaccine counterparts while also leading to 18% higher user-user engagement, while Brazilian anti-vaccine content was significantly less engaging. We also found that pro-vaccine and anti-vaccine discourses are considerably different as the former is associated with conspiracy theories (e.g. ccp), misinformation and alternative medicine (e.g. hydroxychloroquine), while the latter is associated with protective measures. Finally, it was observed that YouTube content removals are still insufficient, with only approximately 16% of the anti-vaccine content being removed by the end of the studied period, with the United States registering the highest percentage of removed anti-vaccine content(34%) and Brazil registering the lowest(9.8%). © 2022 ACM.

ABSTRACT

Online media plays a vital role in defining the future of tomorrow. Almost every field in the present-day is dependent on technology and online media either for procuring better outputs or for the satisfaction of end clients. In this paper, the authors have tried to bring out the various factors that led to the shift of the majority of individuals to online media, briefly discussing its impact on the economy and social factors. It leverages the facts of how the offline media got impacted not only during the days of the novel coronavirus but before as well. It has been plausibly displayed that fake word gets out quicker and more considerably than authentic news utilizing online media. A boost toward the use of E-platforms has predominantly been taken a closer look at in the middle sections of the paper. Further, the exploratory analysis fore- casts the number of online media users by 2031 and presents inquisitive visualizations on the study of various websites during, before, and after the pandemic in the later sections of the paper. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

Humanity is battling one of the most deleterious virus in modern history, the COVID-19 pandemic, but along with the pandemic there’s an infodemic permeating the pupil and society with misinformation which exacerbates the current malady. We try to detect and classify fake news on online media to detect fake information relating to COVID-19 and coronavirus. The dataset contained fake posts, articles and news gathered from fact checking websites like politifact whereas real tweets were taken from verified twitter handles. We incorporated multiple conventional classification techniques like Naive Bayes, KNN, Gradient Boost and Random Forest along with Deep learning approaches, specifically CNN, RNN, DNN and the ensemble model RMDL. We analyzed these approaches with two feature extraction techniques, TF-IDF and GloVe Word Embeddings which would provide deeper insights into the dataset containing COVID-19 info on online media. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
